Indiana residents who kick the habit could win cash

INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana health officials are urging residents to start training now for an October contest that challenges them to quit smoking.

Health Commissioner Gregory Larkin says it takes planning and preparation to stop tobacco use and urges residents to exercise more and make healthy eating choices.

The 2012 Quit Now Indiana contest offers participants a chance to win up to $2,500 for remaining tobacco-free for 31 days. Contestants age 18 and older can register through Sept. 30.

Contest winners will be drawn at random and will be tested to make sure they are tobacco-free before they can claim a prize.

More than 4,500 people across Indiana participated in the 2011 contest.

To register, go to www.QuitNowIndiana.com or www.INShapeIndiana.org .
