Vincennes historic sites looking for volunteers

Posted: Updated:
VINCENNES -

The manager of a cluster of southwestern Indiana historic sites that includes the state's one-time territorial capitol building is searching for volunteers to help out his staff.

Vincennes State Historic Sites manager David Weaver says the volunteers he's looking for don't even need to be history buffs. He tells the Vincennes Sun-Commercial the search for unpaid volunteers "is our first true attempt at doing a volunteer drive."

Four full-time employees currently manage multiple historic sites in Vincennes, which was Indiana's territorial capital before it achieved statehood.

A two-story red building that served as the capitol building is one of several state-run historic sites in Vincennes. Some of the others including the Old State Bank, a print shop and an Indian burial mound.
