Weekend rains may put end of water restrictions in sight

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Heavy rain blinded drivers on the interstate and canceled a host of weekend events, but so far, it hasn't been enough to cancel the city's watering ban.

The National Weather Service says just under two inches of rain fell this weekend in Indianapolis.

Before the storm, the city was nearly seven inches below the year's rainfall average. And even with the rain, Indianapolis is still just over five inches below the rainfall average.

Citizens Energy Group says the rain helped raise water levels at area reservoirs. Still, they say, they're approaching an end to the ban with caution because levels are still down.

The greatest deficit is still at Morse Reservoir, down almost five and a half feet from its full capacity.

Eagle Creek Reservoir is down just over three feet. Geist Reservoir is still down just under two feet.

All water sources are on their way back up, but, says Citizens Energy, are still in need of recharging through a continued ban, more rain, or both.
