Hit-and-run van driver badly hurts Fort Wayne boy

FORT WAYNE -

Police in Fort Wayne say a hit-and-run driver badly injured a 3-year-old boy while backing a van from a driveway.

Police say the boy was taken to a hospital with head injuries after being hit Sunday in a neighborhood on the city's south side.

Police spokeswoman Raquel Foster tells The Journal Gazette the boy's parents immediately scooped him up and began driving him to the hospital, being met along with way by officers who escorted them there.

Witnesses gave officers a description of the van and driver. The van was later found a couple miles away and officers were looking for the diver who apparently borrowed it.

The injured boy's name wasn't immediately released.
