Rain puts a damper on Labor Day weekend events

INDIANAPOLIS -

The rain caused problems for people at outdoor events over the weekend.

The Rib America Festival was delayed due to the weather, while Symphony on the Prairie was called off.

Steady rain fell for much of the day Sunday. At times it came down by the bucket, causing water to pool on roads.

At other times during the day, the rain was a gentle but steady shower. Nevertheless it was just enough to put a wrench in Labor day weekend plans.

Around 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, Rib America officials decided to clear out Military Park and delay the concerts until they were sure the weather would be safe for those who attended.

Organizers of the Ripple Effect, a four-mile run/walk race in Broad Ripple, stuck to their rain or shine plans and runners got soaked.

Back at Rib Fest at Military Park, the gates reopened around 7:30 p.m. and spectators, tired of being stuck inside all day, came out in droves to enjoy one of the last summer nights left of the season.
