Killer of NYC police officers still in legal limbo

Posted: Updated:

A man convicted in the notorious execution-style slaying of two New York City police officers in 2003 is still in legal limbo.

Ronell Wilson is being held in solitary confinement in a Brooklyn jail while his case drags on in federal court.

The 30-year-old Wilson had been convicted and put on death row for killing the two undercover police officers in an illegal gun sting operation on Staten Island. But an appeals court threw out the death sentence in 2010.

Now his lawyers are hoping to convince a judge that he's ineligible for the death penalty because he's mentally disabled.
