The Marion County Sheriff's Department says a former jail deputy was arrested Friday in connection with an incident involving an arrestee.

Nathaniel Latimer was processing the arrestee on July 28, 2012, when the person began arguing with him. The sheriff's department says Latimer "improperly forced the him down, striking his head on a metal bench."

The arrestee was treated for the injury.

Latimer was placed on leave while the department investigated the incident. Sheriff John Layton fired him once criminal warrants were obtained by the prosecutor's office.

Latimer, who had worked for the department since January 2011, faces charges of official misconduct, a class D felony, and battery, a class A misdemeanor.
