Only two private clubs granted smoking exemptions so far

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

So far, just two private clubs have been granted smoking exemptions in Marion County.

They are the Fraternal Order of Eagles on E. 10th and the Loyal Order of Moose on West Vermont.

Under the new smoking ban, clubs wanting to retain smoking have to win a majority vote from their membership, then report it to the county health department.

The deadline for doing so is Saturday, Sept. 1st. Clubs that choose to allow smoking must also create a separate, designated-smoking room where minors not permitted.

Lyndsay Grace is chair of Smoke Free Indy and manager of advocacy for the American Lung Association.

"We've encouraged all Indianapolis' private clubs to take a vote in hopes they would choose to go smoke-free. If needed, Smoke-Free Indy's willing to come to those clubs to talk about the dangers of second-hand smoke," said Grace.
