INDIANAPOLIS -
A burglary suspect is recovering at the hospital after a homeowner shot him in the leg.
Police say the suspect used a crowbar to break into a home early this morning on Willowridge Drive near Decatur Central High School.
Wally Turner, his wife, and five-year-old daughter were asleep when someone broke in by the back door shortly before 2:00 am Friday. Turner grabbed his gun and opened fire, hitting the suspect in the leg.
The man tried to escape, but collapsed in the backyard, where police found him and took him to the hospital.
After calling police, Turner called his parents.
"He just said, 'Mom, somebody tried to break in and I shot someone, and I said, 'How's the baby?' and he said, 'Shaken up,' so I came over," said Denise Turner, the homeowner's mother.
Police arrested 30-year-old James Frye. They say he also stole a black truck earlier in the morning from a nearby neighborhood and may have tried to burglarize other houses in the area before breaking into the Turner's home.
