State top teacher finalists include 7 from central Indiana

INDIANAPOLIS -

The state's 10 teacher of the year finalists include seven from central Indiana.

The Indiana Department of Education announced the finalists Wednesday. They include Martha Constantine, kindergarten, Early Learning Center at Brook Park, Lawrence Township, Indianapolis; Amy Haywood, physics/chemistry, Indianapolis Decatur Central High School; Kelli Park, art, Franklin Community High School; Joey Singleton, 8th grade mathematics, Plainfield Community Middle School; Joshua Torres, music, Center Grove High School; Suzanne Whitton, visual fine arts, Brownsburg Delaware Trail Elementary; and Thomas Younts, agriculture and biology, Fishers High School.

The others are Michael Novak, engineering/tech ed, Greensburg Community High; Lavon Dean-Null, 7th grade social studies, Discovery Middle School, Mishawaka; and Marianne Mazley-Allen, English, Terre Haute North Vigo High School.

One of the 10 will be chosen teach of the year in September.
