MORGAN COUNTY -

A Texas man was critically hurt when he crashed his motorcycle on Interstate 70 in Morgan County Tuesday.

Police say Kenneth Kanzius, 56, of Azle, Texas, struck an orange construction barrel in the travel portion of the left lane of I-70 near the 61.6 mile marker, ejecting him from the bike. He was taken to Wishard Hospital with head injuries.

Witnesses told police the barrel may have been sucked into the travel lane by a passing semi, or perhaps struck by a passing vehicle and knocked into the motorcycle's path. The barrels were off the road at the time and were not being used to divert traffic.

Investigators say Kanzius was not wearing a helmet.
