CARMEL -

Three Indianapolis residents were arrested in Carmel Monday afternoon in connection with an attempted catalytic converter theft.

Carmel Police were conducting surveillance on a white Mazda mini-van identified as a suspect vehicle in thefts of catalytic converters. They followed the van as it drove through parking lots in Carmel and Westfield.

At around 4:00 pm, police say the van parked next to a Mazda Tribute SUV parking near Dick's Sporting Goods at Clay Terrace. Police saw people get out of the van and climb under the SUV. Then police heard the sound of a saw.

At that point, detectives moved in and arrested three people:

Andrew Lee Hurst, 38, white male from Indianapolis

Nona Schakel, 60, white female from Indianapolis

Jessica Anne Keen, 33, white female from Indianapolis

All three face multiple counts of theft. They are being held at the Hamilton County Jail on a $35,000 bond.

Police say these three individuals are suspects in numerous thefts in Carmel, Fishers, Westfield and Noblesville.
