INDIANAPOLIS -

The Mt. Zion Academy child care building at 36th and Boulevard Place was damaged by a fire early Tuesday morning.  The fire was reported just after midnight and Indianapolis Fire companies called for a second alarm before the fire was under control.

Crews were able to put the fire out in 16 minutes, according IFD spokesperson Brad Morris.

The building sustained heavy fire damage estimated at approximately $200,000 according to initial reports.  Investigations is working to determine the cause.

According to Sondra Gentry, Director of Operations for Mt. Zion Academy, construction crews were just completing a total renovation of the building and it was scheduled to open this week to children for daycare services.

Gentry said daycare services are currently being held at 3549 Boulevard Place and no children or staff were using the building at 239 W 36th street at the time of the fire.

But Gentry said the daycare is closed Tuesday and staff will be contacting parents of the academy's 77 students to inform them of the closure.
