INDIANAPOLIS -
A man was injured in a police action shooting on the Indianapolis east side Monday.
It occurred near Pleasant Run Parkway and E. Washington Street Monday.
Police were responding to a child welfare check request and to assist Child Protective Services at a home on North Riley.
As officers arrived at the home, they could hear a young child inside screaming. When officers attempted to detain a man in the home for questioning, he became combative. Police used a stun gun on the man, but it had little effect on him and he continued to resist, running from officers with his hands in his waistband.
After a brief foot chase, the officer fired their weapon, striking Johnny Edmonds, 33. He was taken to Wishard Hospital for treatment. No firearm has been recovered at this point.
Police say Edmonds was currently wanted on a felony warrant for Possession of a Firearm by a Serious Violent Felon and Carrying without a License.
The child was placed into protective care with Child Protective Services. The mother of the child, a 17-year old juvenile, was taken into custody on an unrelated traffic warrant.
