ISU student suspended after fatal campus shooting

TERRE HAUTE -

Indiana State University has suspended a student facing a murder charge for a campus shooting that killed one man and injured two others.

ISU Police Chief Bill Mercier tells the Tribune-Star 21-year-old William Mallory was suspended after Friday's shooting in a campus parking lot that followed a disagreement in an adjacent tavern.

Mercier says ISU allows no weapons on campus, without exceptions. He says that includes students serving in the military or criminal justice programs and those with valid firearms permits.

ISU personnel say Mallory was a sophomore majoring in automotive engineering technology. He's being held on a murder charge at the Vigo County Jail in early Friday's fatal shooting of 24-year-old Dustin Kelly of Terre Haute. Two other Terre Haute men were also wounded in the shooting.
