Woman accused of burglarizing Amish homes

Posted: Updated:

ELKHART (AP) - State police have arrested a northern Indiana woman who they say burglarized the homes of Amish families while they were attending church.

Investigators arrested 34-year-old Marylou Ann Richards on Friday at the Elkhart County Jail, where she was being held on unrelated charges.

Detective Jeff Boyd says Richards burglarized at least two Amish residences during recent weeks and rummaged through the houses, taking cash, checks and credit cards.

Police say in a news release that investigators focused on Richards after she stopped to ask directions from a homeowner who got her license plate number.

Middlebury police stopped Richards for a traffic violation on Aug. 15 and arrested her on outstanding warrants on unrelated charges.

State police didn't know if Richards has an attorney.
