UNIONTOWN -

State police say a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a man who was working to change a tire alongside Interstate 64 in southern Indiana.

Police say 64-year-old Kenneth Derr of Boonville and his brother had stopped along the highway Wednesday evening because of a flat tire on a trailer they were pulling with an SUV. That is when a vehicle described as a dark blue small pick-up truck or car crossed into the shoulder area of the westbound lanes and hit Derr.

Derr was pronounced dead at the scene near the Perry County community of Uniontown, some 50 miles northeast of Evansville. His brother wasn't hurt.

Police said the vehicle that struck Derr should have damage to the front passenger's side.
