INDIANAPOLIS -

Carey Hall, a husband, father of three boys and a member of the racing community, lost his battle with ALS earlier this week.

The Greenwood father participated in Healthbeat stories to educate the public about Lou Gherig's disease and the steady decline that patients face. Ten months after his diagnosis, Carey and his wife Carla shared the frustration of watching the disease take hold.

"When you can't understand somebody and when you see the muscle mass go in his arms and his hands it seems like it's very quick. This is happening too quick," said Carla.

"I don't get mad. Frustrated, but getting mad that doesn't solve anything," he said.

The family released a public video earlier this year to thank Sarah Fischer racing team, and also volunteers who helped remodel their home and bathroom to make it easier for Carey to get along.

"I too am the luckiest man alive. Thank you from the bottom of hearts for everything you've done," he said.

Carey lived with ALS for about two and a half years. He was 43.
