Gas prices hit an August record

If you put off that summer driving trip until now, it will cost you.

Triple-A says drivers paid an average of $3.72 for a gallon of gas yesterday. That's a record high for the date.

Analysts say they expect the price to keep climbing, with the average hitting $3.75 by Labor Day. Gas prices were below $3.70 a gallon last year.

Several groups say that retail gas prices have gone up about 39 cents per gallon, or 12 percent, since hitting a low of $3.33 in early July.

The chief oil analyst at Oil Price Information Service, Tom Kloza, estimates that U.S. drivers are paying $149 million more each day for gas than in early July.

That's money that isn't being spent to go to see a movie or eat out.
