Police in northern Indiana say a 7-year-old girl has died after being shot in the head when three men tried to burst into her family's home.

Elkhart police Lt. Laura Koch says Kristyana Jackson died Sunday, two days after she was shot. The Elkhart Truth reports Kristyana had been in critical condition since Friday night's shooting and had undergone emergency brain surgery at Memorial Hospital in South Bend.

Police say Kristyana and her father were shot when three men tried to enter the family's home on the city's west side as Kristyana and her mother returned from Elkhart Memorial High School's football game. John Jackson was treated and released for his wounds.

No arrests were immediately made in the shootings.
