Fever honor 11 Hoosiers as 'Title IX Heroes'

INDIANAPOLIS -

The Indiana Fever is honoring 11 Indiana women they say represent the spirit of Title IX.

The Indianapolis basketball team has dubbed 11 "Title IX Heroes" and plans to honor them at their Sept. 9 game. The honorees include a woman who ran on her Evansville high school boys' cross country team before they had a girls' team, Indiana's first female Little League all-star and a woman who is one of only a handful of women to have coached men's teams at the NCAA level.

The Fever is recognizing the 40th anniversary of the Title IX section of the Higher Education Act throughout the season. Former U.S. Sen. Birch Bayh authored the measure requiring schools to add women's sports programs to put them on par with their men's programs.
