Ball State recruits New Jersey students

MUNCIE -

Ball State University's year-old campaign to recruit students from New Jersey has tripled the number of Garden State freshmen arriving on the Muncie campus this fall, from two a year ago to six this year.

But those numbers don't tell the full story. The Star Press reported Sunday that Ball State recruiter James Atkins visited 65 high schools last school year in New Jersey, one the most densely populated and wealthiest states in the nation. He attended 29 college fairs and met with more than 1,000 prospective students. From that, Ball State received 110 applications for the 2012-13 academic years, a more than six-fold increase from a year ago.

Ball State vice president for enrollment Tom Taylor is pleased with those results for the initiative's first year.
