Students moving in at Butler

Posted: Updated:

Lots of heavy lifting going on Saturday on the north side of Indianapolis as students got settled into the Butler residence halls.

This year's freshmen make up the largest incoming class in the school's 157 year history.

Butler's president credits increased enrollment to the success of the men's basketball team.. and the university's national reputation for academics.

"Our applications jumped up about 42 percent a couple years ago and they've held steady at that number. And I think the great fortune of having a well recognized academic and athletic program, has really helped butler in a lot of ways," said President James Danko.

There are 1,100 freshmen from 32 states and 20 different countries. Forty-four percent of the incoming students are from Indiana.

Classes at Butler start on Wednesday.
