Run/Walk benefits injured officer

Posted: Updated:

A Fortville police office, shot in the head, is getting help for his recovery. Matt Fox was shot last month during a police chase.

Saturday, part of the proceeds from a run in Cumberland will go to Fox and his family.

A dash camera in his squad car shows the suspect James Lockhart jump out of his car and ambush Fox during the police chase. Fox took a bullet to the head and wrist

Officer Fox thanked people for their help during his recovery.

About 150 people participated in Saturday's 5-K run/walk.

The run was originally a fundraiser for Cumberland's K-9 unit but organizers decided to split the proceeds, to help the injured officer.

Officer Fox said, "This tragedy has turned into a lot of positives. I have a long road ahead of me, but with the community support, it is helping me with my rehab. Again, thank you, I'm overwhelmed with support, as well as my family,"

"With anybody, if anything were to ever happen to you, it is even better that he's alive, we would have done this anyways with anyone that has passed, but is just that much sweeter that he's alive," said officer Suzanne Woodland.

Fox will be in outpatient therapy for at least four months.
