Traffic stop leads to 22 pounds of heroin

Posted: Updated:
CAMBRIDGE CITY -

Authorities say they've seized nearly 22 pounds of heroin that was hidden inside a car that was stopped on Interstate 70 in eastern Indiana.

Officials say the 30 packages of heroin were found stashed within the passenger compartment and trunk of the car when it was checked by a search dog after a police officer stopped it for a traffic violation near the Wayne County town of Cambridge City.

The 23-year-old driver from California was arrested and federal Drug Enforcement Agency agent Dennis Wichern tells the Palladium-Item (http://pinews.co/OqAIlJ ) that three others were arrested in the Columbus, Ohio, area, where the drugs with an estimated $1.5 million street value were headed.

Wichern says the car was stopped Tuesday, but details weren't immediately released to allow agents time to investigate in Ohio.
