INDIANAPOLIS -

Downtown Indianapolis' best-known art museum has won a $250,000 donation to keep its wide-ranging collection of outdoor sculptures in tip-top shape.

The gift from the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust will fund an endowment devoted to the care and conservation of the 10 sculptures and outdoor artworks lining the grounds of the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art.

The museum in White River State Park just west of the Statehouse features several outdoor bronze sculptures, including one depicting a white-tailed deer and another showing a Navajo woman shielding herself from rain.

Museum officials say the endowment will help them care for the artwork, which is exposed to the elements, pests and other threats such as algae that can damage the works.
