Indiana State Fair to review accident that injured girl

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Indiana State Fair officials are looking into whether changes to safety procedures might be needed following an accident in which a 4-year-old girl was struck and badly injured by a pickup truck at the fairgrounds.

Fair spokesman Andy Klotz says fair officials will review Wednesday's accident after this year's fair ends Sunday. But he says a state police report on the accident revealed no "glaring safety issues."

State police say Madalynn Gembala of Buchanan, Mich., broke free of her mother and was struck by a truck's right front tire when she darted into an access road.

She was listed in critical condition Wednesday night at Riley Hospital for Children. The child remained hospitalized Thursday, but hospital spokesman says he couldn't release an update on her condition.
