EVANSVILLE -

The University of Evansville is freezing tuition at about $30,000 per year through four years of study.

University President Thomas Kazee said at a news conference Thursday the rate will remain at that level through four years or all current students and freshman entering next year. He says the university is breaking from the pattern of private colleges and universities raising tuition by 4 percent to 5 percent annually.

The university's trustees approved the tuition freeze and four-year lock-in on July 31.

The Evansville Courier and Press reports students ranging from freshmen to seniors are welcoming the news. Nineteen-year-old sophomore Connor Donnelly of Las Vegas says it shows the university puts students first.
