Two ramps to open Friday on Allisonville Rd. and I-465

INDIANAPOLIS -

Summer schedules are wrapping up, and fall schedules for new construction are just weeks away.

There is good news for commuters as two ramps will open at the Allisonville Road bridge at I-465 on Friday.

Southbound traffic on Allisonville can now go west on I-465 as that opened ahead of schedule on Tuesday.

The entrance ramp from northbound Allisonville Road to eastbound I-465 will likely open Friday.

Both exit ramps from I-465 to Allisonville Road remain open to right turns: Westbound I-465 drivers can go north on Allisonville, and eastbound 465 traffic can go south. However, traffic cannot cross the bridge just yet.

The progress is good news for drivers who are ready for this bridge to re-open. The bridge is scheduled to open in one month.

The bridge closed May 31st, and by mid-September, at the 110-day deadline, it will reopen, possibly ahead of schedule.

"Because of the weather, we've had very very good progress on the project, said Nathan Riggs of INDOT. "It's a little too early to say if things are going to be finished ahead of schedule or not. We still have a few weeks, but certainly if progress keeps up at this rate, with the incentives that we're offering, we hope the contractors will be able to get things done early."

With the end of one project brings the start of another. As soon as the Allisonville Road bridge reopens the next phase of the I-69 project begins for the fall. Another ramp at the 116th street interchange will close.
