INDIANAPOLIS -
Indianapolis Metro Police arrested a 44-year-old man in connection with the July shooting death of his daughter at a midnight brawl at a local baseball park.
Aurelious Woods, 44, was arrested Tuesday and is currently being held without bond. He is one of six people charged in connection with the shootout.
Police say a group of people turned up at the Ben Davis Little League Park on July 3rd looking for a fight. Gunfire erupted and six people were shot. Witnesses say Larretha "LaLa" Draughon tried to break up the fight. Draughon died from her injuries.
Six people including Woods have been charged, but Woods was the final suspect to be taken into police custody. The others were arrested last month.
Draughon was a former Vincennes basketball standout. Police say she was caught in the crossfire at a brawl that began between two women, Takia Rice and Kayla Woods.
Among those arrested and charged was Trey Bebly, Aurelious Woods' brother. Bebly and Woods got into a gun battle with another man from the other camp, identified as Tyrone Mills. Mills was also arrested and charged.
Court records show two camps of supporters came out as if the fight were a spectator sport.
Prosecutors say three guns were used and 29 rounds fired, one of them hitting Draughon in the head. Prosecutors can't say for sure who shot her.
Five others were injured, including a woman who was shot in the leg. She was able to limp to 21st Street. That's when she said she saw Aurelious Woods accelerating towards her. The car hit her and knocked her onto the hood. She suffered a broken leg. When she fell to the pavement, she broke her neck.
Bebly, Aurelious Woods and Tyrone Mills are all charged with murder. Takia Rice and Kayla Woods are charged with murder for setting up the fight, knowing weapons would be present.
Tammy Carter is charged with neglect for bringing her 10- and 16-year-old daughters as spectators.
