Dozens welcome home wounded Indiana soldier

MILLERSBURG -

Dozens of family members and supporters welcomed home a northern Indiana soldier recovering from wounds he suffered in Afghanistan two months ago.

When 20-year-old Army Private First Class Jared Yarger arrived at South Bend Regional Airport on Tuesday, it was the first time he was able to see his family since he was hit in the forehead by mortar shell shrapnel on June 8.

Yarger still has a prominent scar on his forehead after weeks of recovery time at Fort Bliss in Texas.

Yarger says he was amazed by the turnout for his homecoming.

Police cars and about 70 motorcyclists escorted the family to Yarger's Elkhart County hometown of Millersburg for the start of his six-day visit.
