ATV accident leaves eight people injured

A Warren County all terrain vehicle accident is being investigated after it left eight people injured. The accident occurred at 7:45 Sunday evening on Independence Road south of Green Hill.

A witness told investigators that an ATV with four passengers was hit head on by a Jeep Grand Cherokee with five passengers.

A medical helicopter was sent to the scene and one victim was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis. That victim's injuries are unknown at this time.

The remaining seven victims of the accident were taken to two different hospitals in Lafayette. Their injuries are also unknown.

Seven of the eight victims are juveniles, and officials say riders of the ATV were not wearing safety equipment. Indiana Conservation Officer Josh Schoon said helmets and seat belts were not worn.
