State Fair attendance down - 13 WTHR Indianapolis

State Fair attendance down

Posted: Updated:
INDIANAPOLIS -

Through the first seven days of the State Fair attendance has been down, the heat and rain plagued the first part of the fair.

One young lady was so impressed by the crowd she ran along side the tram to tell Eyewitness News reporter Richard Essex, "I'm really surprise with the amount of people here."

Everyone that comes to the fair does so either out of tradition it's a one last day out before school starts which left three sisters speechless, "What is your favorite thing at the fair?"

Off Main Street at the midway it was more than obvious the crowd numbers were in the favor of the fair but so far we have had no one mention they are here for anything special.

"The kettle corn, absolutely," said one person.

It appears just being at the fair is enough, weather like Saturday night, cooler than it has been and less humid than in weeks past allows fairgoers to linger a little longer.

"For years you have been able to track the ups and the downs with the weather and the attendance they go hand in hand so no matter what the programming. It doesn't matter how many great shows competitions we have the weather will still dictated what people will do."

Monday is the first anniversary of the tragic stage collapse at the Indiana State Fair. Monday night everything will stop at 8:46 for just a moment to honor the victims.
