Officer injured during arrest attempt

INDIANAPOLIS -

A Metro police officer was injured after getting into a scuffle with another man who was resisting arrest. That's according to an IMPD spokesperson.

It happened just after 3:00 this morning near 61st Street and Birchwood Avenue in Broad Ripple.

The suspect tried to take the police detective's weapon during the struggle and a shot was fired. The suspect fled from the scene but was later caught in the 5900 block of Carvel Avenue, nearby.

The officer involved was taken to a local hospital to be checked out. The suspect was transported to Wishard Hospital in good condition.
