Rulings: Daniels can lobby as Purdue prez

WEST LAFAYETTE -

Two state ethics rulings say Gov. Mitch Daniels can lobby the state Legislature for university funding and other related matters once he becomes Purdue University's president next year.

After Daniels was elected Purdue's next president in June, questions were raised about whether a one-year "cooling off period" required by the State Ethics Code would apply to him when he becomes Purdue's president in January.

The Journal & Courier reports opinions released Friday by the state inspector general and the executive director of the state Department of Administration's division of executive branch lobbying found no restrictions will apply to Daniels when he assumes Purdue's presidency.

Despite the two non-binding opinions in his favor, Daniels has requested further clarification on all rules that apply to his exit from state government.
