Indiana, Kentucky police plan patrols on Ohio River

NEWBURGH -

Indiana and Kentucky law enforcement agencies are preparing for Ski Day this weekend with increased patrols on the Ohio River east of Evansville.

State and local agencies plan to work with local emergency management officials to handle intoxicated boaters this weekend. Indiana's Department of Natural Resources said Thursday the increased patrols will start Friday evening and run through Sunday night.

Ski Day promoters dub the event at Newburgh Beach a boating "mega-party" and estimate more than 500 boats participate each year. State officials say they also are preparing for public intoxication, fights and possible injuries.
