First drought crop projections for corn and soybeans due today

Posted: Updated:

Agricultural experts eagerly await the federal government's first crop projections for Indiana's drought-plagued corn and soybean crops.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture will release this year's first national and state crop yield and production estimates Friday morning.

Those forecasts are always highly anticipated. But Indiana's farmers and farm experts are particularly eager to see this year's first forecasts because the state has been hard-hit by the nation's worst drought in decades.

A federal drought map released Thursday showed that about 90 percent of Indiana is experiencing severe drought or worse.

A panel of Purdue University agricultural experts will discuss the ramifications of Indiana's crop projections on Friday morning during a presentation at the Indiana State Fairgrounds' Normandy Barn.
