The Riverfield Little League softball team from Anderson, Indiana, won its opening game in the Little League World Series Thursday in Portland, Oregon.
Pitcher Audrey Ricker threw a complete game six inning shutout in a 1-0 win over the host team from Oregon. Riverfield scored its only run in the third inning when Lauren Landes scored on a single by Khloe Saunders.
Oregon threatened in the final inning with bases loaded and no outs. But Riverfield got out of the jam.
Riverfield plays the Netherlands Friday at 3:30 pm eastern. Riverfield plays a team from Florida Sunday and will complete pool play against Mexico Monday.
