Storms trigger warnings across Indiana - 13 WTHR Indianapolis

Several severe thunderstorm warnings were issued throughout Thursday evening. A number of locations were also placed under tornado warnings, mostly due to radar-indicated rotation.

Large hail and high winds came with the storms, but little damage was reported.

A tree was uprooted along Prospect Avenue near Pleasant Run on the south side of Indianapolis.

Indianapolis fire crews worked two house fires caused by lightning strikes.

Around 9:45 p.m., a homeowner in the 400 block of North Alton Avenue reported a lightning strike, then smoke coming from her attic.  Firefighters contained the fire within 20 minutes, but it still did an estimated $10,000 damage.

Just after midnight, Wayne Township fire crews put out a second house fire caused by a lightning strike on Cahill Lane, just west of I-465 south of 10th Street.  Neighbors alerted the homeowners after seeing fire in the attic.

Nobody was hurt in either fire.

The tornado warning had been issued for parts of Fountain, Montgomery, Parke and Putnam counties. That warning was issued due to Doppler radar-indicated rotation by the National Weather Service, there have been no sightings of funnel clouds reported.
