Indiana high court upholds woman's murder conviction

The Indiana Supreme Court has upheld a Portland woman's murder conviction in the grisly 2008 slaying of an ex-boyfriend.

The court in its 5-0 decision rejected 38-year-old Tina Whiting's appeal of her conviction in Shawn Buckner's slaying. Whiting was one of five defendants charged and convicted in the September 2008 killing the Portland man.

Trial testimony indicated that Whiting, who had dated Buckner, helped lure the 28-year-old victim to her Portland apartment.

The Star Press reports that once there, Buckner was severely beaten by three men and robbed of $20 in cash and prescription medication.

Authorities say Buckner was then driven to a cornfield, where two of the men mutilated his genitalia before fatally stabbing him.
