3 finalists picked for Indiana Supreme Court seat

INDIANAPOLIS -

Two county court judges and an Indianapolis attorney have been picked as the finalists for a spot on the Indiana Supreme Court.

Gov. Mitch Daniels will pick the new Supreme Court justice from that group selected by the Indiana Judicial Nominating Commission after it interviewed 10 candidates on Wednesday.

The finalists are Hamilton County Judge Steven Nation, Tippecanoe County Judge Loretta Rush and attorney Geoffrey Slaughter.

They are candidates to replace Justice Frank Sullivan, who is stepping down after 19 years on the court.

Daniels has been urged to appoint a woman to the currently all-male five-member court. Rush is the only female finalist after 16 women were among the 22 applicants for the vacancy.
