INDIANAPOLIS -

Metro police say a man they once called a suspect in a shooting that killed a teenager is in custody, and facing a murder charge.

Glenn Beard, 56, was booked into jail early Thursday morning on preliminary charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a violent felon.

He was wanted as a person of interest in the shooting of 13-year-old Jarrell Tucker. Tucker died at Riley Hospital Monday afternoon.

The shooting happened on North Denny Street on the east side Sunday night. Initial reports from police were that they questioned Beard about the shooting, who told them he shot Tucker in self-defense. Later, police told Eyewitness News they never spoke with Beard and that he was only wanted as a person of interest in the shooting, not necessarily as a suspect.

Tucker's family say Beard shot the teen twice, including once in the head.
