A prosecutor has withdrawn a plea deal for a Kokomo man charged with killing his girlfriend after her family objected.

Howard County Prosecutor Mark McCann filed a motion to withdraw the plea deal for Travis Funke in Howard Superior Court. The Kokomo Tribune reports Judge Brant Parry accepted the motion during a hearing Tuesday.

Court documents say Funke told police he killed Kelly Armstrong in July 2011 after they argued over drugs, then put her body in a trash bin, but it's never been found. He's charged with voluntary manslaughter and is being held in the Howard County Jail.

Armstrong's family objected to the deal giving custody of the couple's 2-year-old son, Dylan, to Funke's family. Armstrong's father, David Armstrong, says he's pleased the deal was withdrawn.
