Southern Indiana tornado victims still await fresh starts

HENRYVILLE -

Many victims of a massive tornado that tore through southern Indiana have watched area students start a new academic year in a Henryville school largely rebuilt in five months - but they await their own fresh starts in the tiny villages and isolated homes of the nearby hills.

All that remains of some houses along the winding roads are piles of splinters. In isolated Daisy Hill, several residents have moved into modular homes bought with federal disaster aid to replace houses that were leveled by the March 2 storm.

Relief coordinator Carolyn King estimates about 60 people remained without shelter Tuesday in three counties served by her group March2Recovery. She says about 300 more need some other kind of assistance.
