BLOOMINGTON -

An Indiana University professor has died after being hit by a motorcycle while vacationing in Bermuda.

The university says Department of Communication and Culture chairman Alexander Doty died Sunday after being hospitalized in critical condition with head injuries since Thursday. The 58-year-old Doty joined the Bloomington campus faculty in 2008 and had written books about gay and lesbian film theory and gay culture.

The Herald-Times reports colleagues say Doty had been in Bermuda for about three hours and was walking back to his hotel when he was hit. A 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of driving while impaired for the crash.
