Persian Gulf country wants Purdue aviation program

Posted: Updated:
WEST LAFAYETTE -

Purdue University officials are considering a proposal to start offering some of its aviation management programs in a Persian Gulf country.

Purdue would join several other American universities with degree programs in the country of Qatar.

Purdue aviation technology department head Brent Bowen tells the Journal & Courier that education leaders in Qatar are working to prepare its workforce beyond oil-related jobs. Bowen has twice visited Qatar and says Purdue could also start training programs for aviation companies now in the country.

Purdue officials are waiting on a draft contract for the Qatar program, but say a foundation there is expected to pay the startup costs.

Georgetown, Texas A&M, Cornell and Northwestern universities are among American schools already with Qatar programs.
