Muncie eyes investments to remake downtown facades

Posted: Updated:
MUNCIE -

Downtown Muncie could be getting a facelift for the first time in a decade.

The Muncie Redevelopment Commission plans to try to drum up private investments to combine with commission funds to help remake the fronts of downtown buildings that have deteriorated.

The Star Press reports 11 downtown buildings received facelifts when the facade program was first launched a decade ago. Nearly three times that many buildings were included on a wish list released by city officials this year.

Commission members say investing in downtown can help draw more businesses there.

Mayor Dennis Tyler says he wants the program to be successful.
