CROWN POINT -

A judge has broadened the search for impartial jurors to hear the capital murder case against a Gary man charged with killing his wife and two stepchildren five years ago.

Lake Criminal Court Judge Thomas P. Stefaniak says he wants ensure that 46-year-old Kevin Isom gets a jury that reflects Lake County's diversity.

The Times reports that Stefaniak has ordered his staff to add 150 new names to a bloated jury pool that already includes 1,150 residents of the northwest Indiana county.

Isom is charged with killing his 40-year-old wife, Cassandra, and her two teenage children in August 2007. Stefaniak declared a mistrial in March after the court ran out of potential jurors.

His new trial is scheduled to begin Jan. 7.
