Some of the middle schoolers on the Riverfield Little All-Stars have never flown on an airplane. Their first trip will be a long one. The softball team from Anderson won the Central Region championship and is headed to Portland, Oregon, for the World Series. They fly out of Indianapolis on Tuesday, August 9th.
"I'm looking forward to it," said Riverfield pitcher Audrey Ricker. "It's a great experience for all of us. For a lot us, this is our last year (playing softball). We're glad we made it this far."
Riverfield will play at least four games in Portland starting August 9th. The World Series includes 10 teams from the United States and around the world.
"I think it will be pretty exciting," said centerfielder Sammy Hammel. "I like jerseys and uniforms. Seeing the different colors of uniforms and different cultures will be fun."
Little League International provides for team transportation, housing and meals. But the cost for the 12 families to attend is estimated at $55,000. District 6 of Little League is hoping to raise $25,000 to defray the cost for the families. Contact Don Mason at ind6llbb@comcast.net to support the team financially.
