Indiana judge rejects effort to halt stadium auction

Posted: Updated:
EVANSVILLE -

A southwestern Indiana judge has refused to halt a weekend auction of equipment from an Evansville stadium slated for demolition.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports businessman Alan Brill had sought an injunction to halt Saturday's auction of fixtures from Roberts Stadium to clear it before it's razed.

A Vanderburgh County Superior Court judge rejected that request Thursday but did not rule on Brill's lawsuit seeking to stop the demolition or Evansville's bid to dismiss that suit. He instead set an Aug. 31 trial date for the dispute.

Demolition of the stadium is expected to begin in late September. Brill contends that for $1 million to $2 million the stadium could be turned into an exhibition space and used in ways that wouldn't compete with Evansville's Ford Center.
